Exmoor Sock yarns enhances the durable character and bounce of the fibre from our local Exmoor Blueface sheep - a cross breed of the Exmoor Horn ( full bodied and hard - wearing ) and the Bluefaced Leicester ( renowned for its softness and lustre ), John Arbon adds natural dark browny-black Devon Zwartbles giving extra bounce and a subtle fleck of colour, plus Falklands Corriedale to enhance softness and stick definition and a hint of Nylon for durability.
The new Exmoor Sock yarn not only celebrates Exmoor, but is designed to be perfect for socks, whist still having the versatility to suit garment and accessories that relish a hard wearing, machine washable yarn. Exmoor Sock yarn is available in handy 50 g skeins. When creating these shades John Arbon was inspired by the changing seasons of Exmoor landscape. This national Park is local to the John Arbon Mill and home to many wild flowers, insects and animals, in amongst the grazing Exmoor Blueface sheep. You can always catch a flash of deep saturated colour when exploring the greens of the hillside and blues of the bay.

John Arbon textiles
The John Arbon Mill, based in South Molton, Devon is one of only a handful of small-scale worsted spinning mills still operating in the UK. John likes to use fibre from sheep on his doorstep whenever possible and, with the help of his team, transforms it into unique and sumptuous blends in the form of yarn and tops.
The Mill was started nineteen years ago, and is based on a very simple concept – a return to old-style textile manufacture by sustainably sourcing raw fibre locally, wherever possible, and converting it in the UK into high quality tops and yarns, rather than racking up air miles by chasing the cheapest available labour.
