A very busy year...

Seam Haberdashery, Topsham: Christmas window

I'm not sure how this past year managed to disappear so fast, but I find myself reflecting on how my little shop has grown so much and evolved in ways that I didn’t anticipate when I first embarked on this journey.

My move to Topsham in February has been so much fun and meeting new customers who have embraced me as part of their community has been truly humbling. Starting this little shop has been a dream of mine for many years and I’m not sure why it took me so long to find the courage to follow my dream, but I am so happy to have had this opportunity, and I am truly grateful to family and friends for all their help and encouragement over the past two years.

I always wanted my shop to feel like a place where customers of all ages could feel happy to “drop in” for a chat, or maybe ask questions about their latest creations. When I first opened, I didn’t imagine it would bring so many people together and inspire many to create and make beautiful garments, and I am always impressed by the range of creativity. Many of my customers have also become good friends and meet every week to knit, crochet, sew and chat. I love the idea of people making something for themselves or their loved ones. I am part of their story and they can put their hands on their chest and say with pride and joy, “I made this”.

Many of my customers have fond memories of visiting haberdashery shops with their parents and grandparents, and walking into my shop often evokes many fond memories of time spent with people who were so important in their childhood.

At Christmas time, we remember special people who may no longer be with us and keep fond memories close to our hearts.

I want to thank you all for supporting me over this past year and I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
