DETAILS:The iconic Log Cabin Block is one of the most popular amongst quilters. It became wide-spread in the United States of America in the 1860s and is often associated with the presidency of Abraham Lincoln. Steeped in history and folklore, the colour of its centre square carries rich symbolism including portraying the hearth of the home (red); or a welcoming light for weary travellers (yellow); or signifying a safe house on the Underground Railroad during the American Civil War (black). In this workshop you will learn how to place strips of fabric in lighter and darker shades building from the centre square outwards to complete your first log cabin block. Instructions will include how to use this block to create your own log cabin lap quilt. A perfect project for the winter months.
