As we approach the end of Spring, the sun here in Devon has decided to shine and the combination of warm sunny days and blues skies marks the warmer days ahead and I'm looking forward to early evening walks and glorious colourful sunsets.
The longer summer evenings gives me the opportunity to think about colour and using my garden and its plants to collect flowers and leaves to store for my natural dyeing workshops in the Autumn.

My latest read is a book by Kristine Vejar 'The Modern Natural Dyer' which gives the reader a wonderful visual guide to dyeing silk, wool, linen and cotton. If you are completely new to natural dyeing, Kristine gives you a step by step guide of plants you could gather if you have a small garden or what to collect on a countryside walk but without damaging the natural habitat of the plants. She also talks you thorough starting a dye journal which I found a very useful too when I first started to dye with natural pigments.

Throughout her book, Kristine offers clear suggestions and useful project ideas and how small amounts of fabrics and yarns can be used within a larger project, to create unique garments and gifts for you and your friends and family.
